About Us
The task of upgrading the inside of the building has been ongoing for a number of years including the installation of Gas Central heating in all three floors; secondary glazing in the main hall; the total refurbishment of the main stairwell; the new coffee bar at the hub of the project, and of course the creation of a sound recording studio afforded through the “Seedcorn Grant”.
It was unfortunate that the external of the building, did not reflect the dramatic changes happening inside the building , the quality resources or the extensive youth programme−until a successful Scottish Executive, Youth Link Capital Grant became available in 2006−2007. With this Grant, much needed work was carried out on the roof, the guttering cleaned and replaced where necessary, window sills and frontage on both Murray Street and Victoria Street completely replaced. as well as the whole of the exterior repainted with a new sign letting everyone know that YMCA Montrose is alive and well. The work on the exterior of the building, carried out by local tradesmen was completed within a tight timescale, with minimum disruption to the youth programme, or to any of our user groups, for which they are to be congratulated.
Music group

Maximize the potential of our “Recording Studio”. Whilst it is well used by members of the Music Group.
Where do we go from here?
The top floor flat has been improved to meet the needs of any Training Group. The changes creating a totally independent facility which includes; an office, main meeting room; quiet room; fully fitted kitchen and toilet with shower room. Early in 2007, we named the facility as the “Stansfeld Suite” and have started to market it to a range of potential user groups.
To date user groups include; Careers Scotland, Angus College and Community Learning, Aberdeenshire, with new bookings for the coming months starting to proof the worth of such a facility.

The other area in need of publicity to maximize its potential is our “Recording Studio”. Whilst it is well used by members of the Music Group, the usage of outside groups / agencies has been less than we would have hoped for.
The bookings we have had, have been highly complimentary of the quality and professionalism of the Recording and their end product.
The Music Group, on behalf of YMCA Montrose donated a Recording Session to “Caring for Kids Charity Auction”, which was a huge success, the publicity very positive.
Having a number of the members of the Music Group now fully trained–the priority over the next year will be to market this facility to its full potential.
